FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

What is the VET Summit?

It is a one day event that connects VET students in the region with employers throughout the day. The goal is for students to acquire skills and knowledge that will help them succeed and get the most out of their VET work placements and future careers. Activities include Keynote Speakers, Interactive Careers Workshops, and Speed Careers Mentoring.

How is the VET Summit different to a regular Careers Expo?

A traditional expo is a great way to meet people and exhibitors. The VET Summit goes beyond the traditional approach as students receive valuable advice in the Speed Careers Mentoring session in small, focused groups for up to ten minutes. Students will engage in interactive workshops surrounding careers rather than the conventional expo. They will also receive valuable resources that they will find useful throughout their career, from work placements to part time and full-time jobs post high school.

Who should attend?

The VET Summit is aimed at current Year 11 VET students who have chosen a VET course for Year 11 and 12 studies or are interested in the VET pathway.

Which schools are attending?

SWC works with all High Schools in Region E, (Fairfield, Liverpool and parts of Cumberland City Councils) including NSW DoE, Sydney Catholic Schools and Independent Schools. Please contact us if your school is outside our region.

If I completed the EOI on Google Forms, am I obligated to attend?

No, there is no obligation for your school to attend until you complete the Group Eventbrite Booking/Deposit form. By completing the EOI, your school's spot will be secured while you organise the $100 refundable booking deposit.

What is the Group Eventbrite Booking/Deposit Form?

The Group Eventbrite Booking/Deposit Form is where you book and finalise your school's spot for the VET Summit. SWC will send an Eventbrite link where you will pay a $100 refundable deposit. Your school's spot at the 2024 VET Summit is not confirmed until you do this.

How many students and teachers can I bring?

Nominate the number of students you would like to bring on the Group Booking/Deposit Form (no names required), up to 100 students (SWC will do our best to accommodate, however it may be capped due to high demand). The number of teachers you can bring will depend on your school's excursion policy for teacher to student ratios.

Is the VET Summit free?

The VET Summit is FREE to attend for all registered students and teachers. It is valued at $110 per person, however, SWC is providing this event FREE of charge to attend for High Schools in Fairfield & Liverpool area who have registered.

Why do I need to pay a deposit? Will I get it back?

The deposit is to ensure that SWC can plan the event according to numbers for catering and break out sessions/rotations purposes. After your school attends the event, you will be refunded the deposit minus the booking fee [approx. $7-$15]. The $100 deposit is not refundable if (1) your school does not show up at the event, or (2) your school cancels the booking within 14 days before the event date. The $100 deposit fee minus the booking fee [approx. $7-$15] will be refunded onto the same card you used to pay the initial deposit. Please ensure that your card expiry is valid until 06/24.

When will I get my deposit back?

SWC will process the refund the day after the VET Summit (Thursday, 9th May 2024). Please note that it may take up to 10 business days for the funds to be returned to the original card used to make the purchase. Please ensure that your card expiry is valid until 06/24.

Why is the VET Summit valued at $110 per student?

This amount covers the cost of the venue hire, catering, resource booklets, hiring guest speakers, industry experts - ensuring the event runs safely and smoothly and for the students to get the most out of their day. The event has been subsidised by SWC and other providers.

What resources will be provided?

SWC will provide permission notes and risk assessment plan templates, information packs, and networking packs. Students will receive a showbag with resources at the VET Summit.

Who are the 'Industry Experts' attending the event?

The 'Industry Experts' attending the VET Summit refer to the employees or employers from businesses and organisations that either represent a VET industry, RTO's, Tertiary Education Institutions, Government, VET focussed Not for Profits and many more. The industries represented include the VET Industry Curriculum Courses such as healthcare, construction and hospitality.

Is transport provided?

No, schools must organise and pay for their own transport to and from the venue. In the unlikely event you are unable to arrange transport please contact SWC.

Is lunch provided? Can certain dietary requirements be met?

Lunch will be provided to all registered students and teachers. Basic dietary requirements will be met such as Halal, vegetarian and gluten free. Attendees with any allergies or other dietary requirements, will need to bring their own lunch.
